Quake in Russia’s Far East Prompts Evacuations
May 24, 2013
An 8.3-magnitude earthquake struck Russia’s Far East on Friday, sending tremors that prompted evacuations as far away as Moscow, more than 4,000 miles to the west of the epicenter. The United States Geological Survey recorded the earthquake at 5:44 p.m. local time at a depth of approximately 373 miles below the Sea of Okhotsk, off the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula. Russian news media reported that reverberations from the earthquake rattled furniture and sent books toppling off of bookshelves in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on the Kamchatka Peninsula, and officials initially told residents on Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands to reach higher ground in case of a tsunami. Russia’s Emergency Ministry later lifted the tsunami warning, and said in a statement that no injuries had been reported. Tremors were felt in more than a dozen regions spanning Russia; in Moscow, local law enforcement officers evacuated 850 people from two apartment buildings after residents said the buildings were shaking.

Chirinkotan Volcano erupts in Kuril Islands - MAP here
May 24, 2013 – RUSSIA, FAR EAST
- The remote volcano in the northern Kuriles is probably in eruption, the latest SVERT report and satellite images suggest. A plume of gas and steam, and possibly some minor amounts ash was seen with the MODIS sensor onboard the NASA Terra satellite this morning. Satellite data also indicate that activity had likely already started in early May, because a small thermal anomaly can be traced back on archive pictures to 7 May. One should take into account that frequent dense cloud cover often prevents such observations, so activity could have started earlier than that. It is not known what kind of activity is occurring at the volcano. Possibilities include some minor explosive (strombolian ?) activity at the summit, or lava flows that might be reaching the sea and produce the steam plume observed. The last eruption of the volcano was (probably) in 2004. –Volcano Discovery

Russia Shiveluch Volcano Spews Ash 3 Miles High
August 5, 2013
Russia’s northernmost active volcano churned out ash to a height of up to five kilometers (three miles) in the country’s Far East.  The 3,283-meter (10,771 feet) Shiveluch volcano increased activity in May 2009 and has been periodically spewing ash from three to ten kilometers.
“The cloud of ash moved in the eastern direction from the volcano having bypassed residential areas at the distance of some 50 kilometers [31 miles],” the department said in a statement.
Although the current eruption poses no immediate threat to nearby settlements, the ensuing ash fallouts could be hazardous to health and the environment.
The clouds of volcanic ash could also pose threat to air traffic because the tiny particles cause problems with aircraft engine turbines.
There are more than 150 volcanoes on Kamchatka and up to 30 of them are active.

-  by Michael Janitch, scientist
A rare magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Siberia Russia near the China Border.
The USGS is not reporting this earthquake.   Just like the USGS is not reporting  the rare 4.2M earthquake which just struck in North France today.
USGS is govt kontrolled - like all news.

They've gone from being the "new norm", to now being part of everyday life, it seems.

As it was in the days of Noah and Lot...
