Tungurahua volcano ejects ash cloud 10 km in new eruption
April 2014 – ECUADOR
– Throat of fire volcano in central Ecuador has spewed up a column of hot ash and smoke 10 kilometers high, increasing fears of an eruption. Activity has been building at the Tungurahua volcano 130 kilometers south of the capital Quito since early February. On Friday (Saturday Australian time), experts reported a loud explosion that lasted for five minutes and an expulsion of ash. “For now ashfall is mild,” the National Secretariat for Risk Management said on Twitter. Tungurahua, which in the Quechua language means “throat of fire,” has been erupting since 1999. Tungurahua is one of eight active volcanoes in Ecuador, a country that is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire which makes it prone to seismic and volcanic events. In early February, a series of explosions rocked the volcano, spewing columns of ash into the air that reached as far as Quito. In 2006, six people died in a village destroyed by lava from Tungurahua. Multiple villages are located in the vicinity of the volcano, which stands 5029 meters above sea level.

Ecuador’s volcano spews lava
August 10, 2014
The 5,023-meter (16,575-foot) volcano Tungurahua, in Central Ecuador, spewed lava and incandescent rocks from its crater in its latest activity on Thursday. Tungurahua has been shooting plumes of ash into the sky to a distance of upto three kilometers (1.8 miles) since the beginning of the week. Civil defense officials have issued an “orange warning,” – involving voluntary evacuation – to villagers living near Tungurahua’s flanks. The Tungurahua volcano has been active since 1999. In 2006, it spewed large clouds of ash down its slopes, killing four people and leaving two missing. –RT

Galapagos Islands, Wolf Island volcano
May 25, 2015  Ecuador
-  A large eruption at Wolf Island volcano, Isabela, in the Galapagos.
An eruption seen by passing ships has made international news.
Galapagos Islands are off the coast of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean.
Watching for volcanic eruptions to take place in Central America near Costa Rica, into Colombia.

Wolf has erupted for the first time since 1982, producing both lava fountains and lava flows.

The images show a fairly large volcanic plume.
The eruption is coming from a new fissure on the southeast flanks of Wolf.
Some of the settlements on Isabela may get minor ash fall from the plume.
The explosions from the start of the eruption were captured on the nearest seismometer (20 km away)

Galapagos Island volcano erupts
4.7 magnitude shallow earthquake, depth 10 km near Wolf volcano.
After almost 33 years of inactivity, Wolf Volcano, the highest in the Galapagos Islands and home to the only population of pink iguanas in the world, began to erupt.  The Galapagos Islands are located in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Ecuador. Pink iguanas share the habitat with yellow iguanas and giant tortoises. The lava flow has southeasterly direction, so the park expects the animals won’t be affected.

June 4, 2015
-   The volcano has been showing signs of unrest this year, a marked increased in earthquakes and SO2 emissions, which could be signs of a magma intrusion beneath the volcano.  This could be a precursor to an eruption, which would be the first since 1942.

Ecuador emergency over volcano
August 16, 2015
-  Ecuador President Rafael Correa has declared a state of emergency over increasing activity at the Cotopaxi volcano near Quito.  That gives authorities more flexibility in using government funds.
Officials evacuated nearby villages after the volcano began to erupt on Friday.  Cotopaxi is among the world's most dangerous volcanoes and is prone to fast-moving rock and mud flows.
