7.3 and 7.1 Japan earthquakes
April  15, 2016
 -  Kyushua, WSW of Kumamoto-shi, NNE of Uto.  A second earthquake in 2 days.  This isnt far from Sendei - Fukushima.  44,000 flee earthquake amid concerns over volcanoes and aftershocks.  Quake killed at least 9, people trapped inside buildings.  A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 has struck southern Japan, barely 24 hours after a smaller quake hit the same region and killed nine people.

There are also concerns about volcanic activity in the wake of the quake. The island of Kyushu, where the earthquake happened, is a highly volcanic area. A level 2 warning – meaning people should not approach a volcano’s crater – has been in place for Asosan in Kumamoto prefecture on the island since November 2015.

A magnitude-7.1 earthquake has hit Japan near the city of Kumamoto on the island of Kyushu.  The area is still recovering from Thursday’s quake.  There have been several reports of collapsed buildings and cracked roads.  The Sendai Nuclear Power plant, the only operational nuclear power facility in Japan, is located in the region. The plant continued to operate.

Japan land shift to Northeast
April  16, 2016
 -  A whole portion of South Japan moved from Southwest to Northeast during a series of large earthquakes occurring in South Japan.  Aftershocks are spreading out across the region to nearby adjacent volcanic locations.  Make note of the progression of earthquakes over the past 3 days, the movement began at the Southwest tip of the island, and has progressed Northeast, striking multiple volcanoes along the way.

During these earthquakes, Mount Aso sent off a new blast.
It is troubling to see these earthquakes near a Kumano-Dake Volcano and Yufu-Tsurumi Volcano.  The line of earthquakes is pointing towards further movement nearby.  New volcanic eruptions coming from the other nearby volcanoes is a real possibility over the next several days.

Second strong earthquake rocks Kumamoto
A magnitude-7.3 earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture, injuring many more and bringing down buildings, a day after a quake killed 9 others in the region. The damage over a wide area, people trapped in collapsed buildings, fires and power outages. It triggered a huge landslide that swept away homes and cut off a highway, larger buildings were damaged and some toppled across Kumamoto, the epicenter of the quakes.  People were buried alive, fire broke out at an apartment complex. Residents living near a dam were told to leave because of fears it might crumble.

JAPAN Aso Volcano erupts
Oct 8, 201
6  -  Mount Aso volcano, the largest active volcano in Japan had its first strong explosive eruption since January 1989 on October 7, 2016, sending a column of ash up to 11 km (36 000 feet) in the air.

Volcanic ash is covering cars, houses and roads in the city of Aso and has been reported as far as 320 km (200 miles) from the crater.  Farmers have reported that some vinyl greenhouses 6 – 8 km (4 – 5 miles) away from the crater had been broken by ash and small rocks.

6.2-magnitude earthquake hits Japan
10/21/16 - Tokyo (CNN)A preliminary 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck Japan on Friday,  6.3 kilometers in depth, hit near Kurayoshi city to the west of Osaka.

Almost 80,000 households suffered from initial blackouts, but most power has been restored. A handful of light injuries were reported.  There have been reports of housing damage, with state media showing properties flattened by the temblor, but no tsunami warning has been issued.

No irregularities were reported from nuclear power plants in the region, authorities said.  The operator of the Chugoku and Okayama Highways, NEXCO West, said the roads had been closed for safety inspection, but no damage has been recorded.

Aid groups were standing by to offer material support if needed.

"We're hearing reports of homes suffering damage, several major highways have been closed off while the authorities assess their safety and tens of thousands of people have been left without power," said Kunio Senga, CEO of Save the Children Japan.

"We know children are always among the most vulnerable in disasters like this, so we're monitoring how we can support them in the recovery process."
The Japan Meteorological Agency has warned of possible strong aftershocks in the next couple of days.

Magnitude 6.6 quake jolts western Japan
Oct 21, 2016
-  There were no immediate reports of injuries or major damage and no irregularities at nuclear plants, but media said roughly 40,000 households were at one point without power.  Gravestones were toppled, bottles fell off store shelves and smashed, and at least one building collapsed.

The Japan Atomic Energy Agency said connection to outside power at a partly-decommissioned experimental uranium extraction facility was lost for 53 minutes, but auxiliary generators turned on immediately so there was no loss of power or damage.
