Yellowstone ‘Super Eruption’ Could Blanket U.S. in Ash, Study Finds
9/2/14

An eruption could blanket the east coast in a few millimeters and bury the Rocky mountains in several meters of ash

If Yellowstone erupted into a massive, ash-spewing volcano, how far might the plume travel across the continental United States? From coast to coast, blanketing every city in ash, according to an unsettling new study.

Geophysicists developed a computer model of a Yellowstone “super eruption” that would spew 330 cubic kilometers of volcanic ash into the sky. The resulting ash cloud, depending on wind conditions, would blanket the continental United States in ash deposits of varying thickness, according to the study, published late August in the journal Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems.

New York and Washington D.C., would get a light dusting of ash measuring roughly one-tenth of an inch, while San Francisco and Seattle would get a heaping 2 inches. Billings, Montana, meanwhile, would have to dig out from a 70-inch pile up.

If the findings sound far-flunged, so to speak, researchers point out that Yellowstone’s last massive eruption spewed ash over tens of thousands of square kilometers. Deposits from that eruption have been traced as far afield as Canada and the Gulf of Mexico. Fortunately, the last time Yellowstone erupted on that scale was some 2 million years ago and counting.

Dutch tourist fined for crashing drone in Yellowstone hot spring
Sept 26, 2014
A Dutch tourist has been ordered to pay penalties of more than $3,000 for crashing a drone aircraft into a famous hot spring at Yellowstone National Park.
Theodorus Van Vliet was trying to take aerial pictures of Yellowstone in August when his camera-equipped drone crashed into Grand Prismatic Spring.
Rangers were unable to find the wreckage but suspect it is lying on the floor in the hot spring.
Van Vliet on Tuesday pleaded guilty to violating a ban on unmanned aerial vehicles on lands and waters overseen by the National Park Service and was ordered to pay a fine of $1,000 and $2,200 in restitution.

END of the USA
Russian Analyst Calls For Nuclear Attack On Yellowstone

March 31, 2015 -  It would be a major calamity, the END of the USA - a total utter end.
A Russian said the best way to attack the United States is to detonate nuclear weapons to trigger a supervolcano at Yellowstone National Park or along the San Andreas fault line on California's coast.

NATO is amassing strength against Russia and the only way to combat that problem was to attack America's vulnerabilities to ensure a "complete destruction of the enemy".

Yellowstone supervolcano could explode at any moment. There are signs of growing activity there. The consequences will be catastrophic for the United States, a country just disappears.

Another vulnerable area of the United States is the San Andreas fault California.
A detonation of a nuclear weapon there can trigger catastrophic events like a tsunami which can completely destroy the infrastructure of the United States.

Yellowstone supervolcano
April 24, 2015
-  Giant magma reservoir mapped deep beneath Yellowstone National Park supervolcano.  Scientists have discovered an enormous underground reservoir deep beneath the surface and have mapped it out for the first time.  Don’t worry. There’s not a lot of actual molten rock in there and it doesn’t at all affect the likelihood of whether it will erupt anytime soon.

“Now we really have a complete image of the Yellowstone plumbing system.”

The Yellowstone caldera, a giant crater caused by a previous eruption, measures 40 miles by 25 miles and sits in the northwest corner of Wyoming, in Yellowstone National Park.  The supervolcano erupted 2 million, 1.2 million and 640,000 years ago, fed by the movement of the North American tectonic plate. Underground, 3 to 9 miles beneath the caldera, sits a frying-pan-shaped magma chamber measuring roughly 19 miles by 55 miles.

In a previous study, Farrell and coauthors showed that the shallow magma chamber, once thought to be 1,000 cubic miles, was actually about 2.5 times that size. Farrell and colleagues set out to see whether there was a deeper chamber below that one.

Idaho quake tied to Yellowstone
May 19, 2015
-  The Yellowstone magma chamber is showing earthquake activity due to pressure from the Pacific Northwest.

3.0 quake Old Faithful Geyser, Wyoming May 18, 2015 -
3.2 quake Challis, Idaho

May 18 Yellowstone Supervolcano showed earthquake activity across the whole magma chamber.
Two volcanic earthquakes have struck Idaho and Wyoming over the past 12 hours, both related to the volcanic chambers below the Yellowstone Super-Volcano.

Both seismic events occurred directly along the line of the Yellowstone Magma chamber.  One of the earthquakes struck directly inside of Yellowstone national park.  Yellowstone underground magma chamber reaches West into Idaho and North into Montana.

Multiple dormant volcanoes show earthquake activity during May all along the West coast of the United States.  Glacier Peak Volcano in Washington State is now being monitored for possible eruption.

Yellowstone trail closed
May 24, 2015
-  Hiking trails around Yellowstone, and parts of Grand Tetons off limits to hikers.
This made international news.
These trail closures are around Yellowstone supervolcano.
Volcanoes steam plumes occurring across Nevada, Wyoming, Idaho, Washington state, Oregon, and California have been erupting daily for the past several days, with earthquakes.
A large steam eruption May 23 across Idaho and Wyoming.

Yellowstone National Park
July 17, 2015  Northern Wyoming
-  by Michael Janitch -  Yellowstone Road Melts, new geothermal feature causes road deformations.  A well used road at the Yellowstone National Park supervolcano is melting.
This has happened before, officials are admitting the melting of the road is actually due to a new geothermal feature taking form.

Upper Terrace Drive near Mammoth Hot Springs is closed, measured with subsurface soil temperatures exceeding 152F / 69C.  Last year, the same thing happened, roads actually melted to the point where oil in the pavement was bubbling.
Yellowstone supervolcano at the National Park is much bigger than previously thought.

Road in Yellowstone National Park closed to vehicles due to thermal activity
Rangers at Yellowstone National Park have temporarily closed Upper Terrace Drive near Mammoth Hot Springs to vehicles due to a new thermal feature that is affecting the road.
