Israel to Significantly Ease Gaza 'Blockade'
June 16, 2010
Israel will significantly ease its bruising land blockade of the Gaza Stripa.  Senior Cabinet ministers were meeting to limit restrictions on what gets into Gaza - materials terrorists use in their battle wars on Israel - to a short list of goods, some of them desperately needed by Gaza civilians.

But the Israeli naval blockade that was at the root of the deadly raid that prompted the international outcry will remain intact.
It also wasn't clear whether key raw materials for industry would be permitted to enter again and whether Israel would end its ban on Gazan exports.

The three-year-old embargo has shuttered hundreds of Gazan factories, put tens of thousands of people out of work and brought the territory's fragile economy to a standstill. Travel restrictions that confine most of Gaza's 1.5 million people to the territory are also likely to remain in effect.

Israel, with Egypt's cooperation, has blockaded the Palestinian territory by land and sea ever since Hamas militants, with a violent anti-Israel agenda, seized control of Gaza in 2007.

For the most part, only basic humanitarian goods have been allowed in.

Items such as cement and steel, badly needed to rebuild homes and businesses after Israel's war in the territory last year, have barely been allowed in. Israel says militants can use them to build weapons and military fortifications.

Under the new guidelines, those materials will be allowed in to an undetermined extent in coordination with the United Nations, but won't be freely available to private citizens, Israeli officials said. Restrictions on things like school supplies, books, computers and toys are expected to be lifted.

"It would be nice for Gaza residents to be able to receive previously banned items such as paper, toys and computers," said Sari Bashi, an Israeli activist whose Gisha rights group has been fighting to open Gaza's borders. "But Gaza residents need to be able to receive raw materials in order to engage in productive, dignified work."

The blockade was designed to keep out weapons, turn Gazans against their militant Hamas rulers and pressure the Iranian-backed Hamas to free a captive Israeli soldier. It did not achieve those aims, however, and both weapons and goods sold at black market prices continued to flow into the territory through a large network of smuggling tunnels built under the Gaza-Egypt border.

The blockade did not provoke an international outcry until Israeli commandos killed nine Turks two weeks ago in a raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla that sought to draw attention to the blockade's effects.

With pro-Palestinian activists promising to keep blockade-busting boats coming, Israel has been scrambling to find ways to ease the embargo and its own growing international isolation.

Relaxing the restrictions on goods that go through Israeli-controlled land crossings is less complicated than easing the sea blockade. Israel is afraid that weapons ships will stream into Gaza if the naval blockade is lifted, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing that Israel would "not allow the establishment of an Iranian port in Gaza."

On Wednesday, a top Israeli security chief warned against lifting the sea blockade, saying that even international inspectors would not be able to keep Israel safe.

The Haaretz newspaper on Wednesday quoted international envoy Tony Blair as hailing the expected vote by the Israeli ministers.

"It will allow us to keep weapons and weapon materials out of Gaza, but on the other hand to help the Palestinian population there," Blair was quoted as saying. "The policy in Gaza should be to isolate the extremists but to help the people"
Blair represents the Quartet of Mideast negotiators -- the U.S., European Union, U.N. and Russia.

White House linked to flotilla organizers

-  Israel official ties evil resident Obama's adviser to controversial Free Gaza Movement.  Evil John Brennan  is the contact person within the White House for communications with the Free Gaza Movement over plans to challenge Israel's 'blockade' of Gaza.
The Gaza flotilla was being coordinated with the 0bama White House.
Brennan is Muslim.

I wrote this because people wonder WHY Gaza is blockaded.
People wonder why chocolate and luxury food items are forbidden.
There is a lot of talk on TV and the inet about various food items which are luxuries, NOT necessities, which Israel refuses to allow into Gaza.  WHY?
This is only my personal belief, nothing official.

Well, let me ask a few questions first.  Why do people in the USA sue others.  Why do courts award punitive damages?
What is a life worth?  Which is better, to say to Gaza, you shoot rockets at Israel, we will not allow chocolate into Gaza.
Israel could shoot back, which they would be morally right to do in self defense.  Hamas shoots missiles into Israel which explode in Israeli cities,
terrifying civilians - Israel says, OK, in addition to chocolate, no coriander either.  I would say Israel taking punitive measures is very justified.
When the world wants to send aid to Gaza, which the terrorists WANT, but DO NOT NEED, the world is telling Israel it has no right to self defense.
See where I am going?

A Qassam rocked fired from the Gaza Strip hit the western Negev before dawn Wednesday,
seriously damaging a packing plant and other structures in the Sdot Negev Regional Council, but causing no casualties.

Rocket also seriously damages other structures in the Sdot Negev Regional Council; no one hurt.

"Tonight we took the hit, but the [rocket] fire is constant," the plant's manager said. "On the whole, we are a peaceful and quiet community," he continued.
"People got up and went to work and are trying to continue the day's routines."
"The biggest problem is that that our houses are not protected [against rocket fire]; I hope [the government] speeds up the fortification work," he concluded.
The rocket attack comes one day after Israel Defense Forces Brig. Gen. Eitan Dango who oversees civilian operations in the West Bank told the Palestinian Authority that Israel plans to significantly boost the number of aid trucks allowed into the Gaza Strip.

damned Palestinians respond to Israel's kindness by shooting rockets at them.

Rocket explodes in heart of Ashkelon
July  30, 2010
A Grad missile launched from Gaza landed in a central, residential area of Ashkelon Friday morning.
The missile shattered numerous windows of the surrounding, multi-story buildings and vehicles in the area.
Ashkelon Mayor Benny Vaknin said this is a very serious incident.
There is no doubt that such a hit inside the city is an escalation.
We will convene all the security elements in the city for consultations on our next move.
4 rockets and 2 mortar shells were fired at Israel July 24th.

Hamas orders new army, Senior Hamas man killed in Gaza strike
July 31, 2010
Hamas new military command center bombed which cost Iran $250 million.   GOOD JOB ISRAEL!
Israeli bombers struck Palestinian targets in Gaza city, Deir el Balach in the east and Rafah in the south Friday night, July 30
after Palestinian missile attacks which damaged a high-rise apartment building in Ashkelon.  One Hamas officer was killed, 8 were injured.

Hamas says man killed was Issa al-Batran, who had survived 5 past assassination attempts.

This was the first Israeli attack on a Hamas military target since the January 2009 Cast Lead operation.
It took place after Hamas called up all men aged 18 to 25 for a new Palestinian Popular Army for stepping up its confrontation with Israel.

Hamas launched the military-standard Grad missile to show off its new strength and inform Israel that henceforth it faces an enhanced Palestinian challenge from Gaza.
The new Hamas militia is structured like the Lebanese Hellzballah.
Both are armed and sponsored by Iran.

The Hamas operative killed in the IDF strike in Gaza Friday was a senior official who survived 5 assassination attempts by Israel.
12 other Palestinians were also injured in the strike, and some of them sustained serious wounds.
The Hamas man killed was 40-year-old Issa al-Batran, from Bureij, Gaza.

IAF strikes Gaza smuggling tunnels after Qassam hits Negev
July  31, 2010
Israel strikes Gaza targets for second time, after Gaza militants fire two rockets in 36 hours; Hamas vows revenge over militant's death in earlier strike.
Israel Air Force jets struck two smuggling tunnels in the southern Gaza Strip overnight Saturday, just hours after a Qassam rocket fired from the coastal enclave hit a public structure in the western Negev, causing damage.
An Israel Defense Forces spokesperson said the army views Gaza's Hamas rulers as the sole party responsible for the rocket attacks against Israel.

The 36-hour tit-for-tat began Friday, when a rocket fired by Gaza militants exploded in the coastal Israeli city of Ashkelon.
The IAF struck three targets in Gaza Friday night, which Palestinian sources described as the heaviest assault since Operation Cast Lead, Israel's three-week assault on the Gaza Strip a year and a half ago.
A Hamas operative, a 40-year-old member of Hamas' military wing, was killed in an explosion near the Nuseirat refugee camp south of Gaza City in the center of the Hamas-controlled strip. Another 13 Palestinians were hurt.

Hamas has vowed revenge for the militant leader's death.
Palestinian militants then fired a Qassam rocket Saturday night, which hit the Sha'ar Hanegev regional council area in the Negev, just hours after the first IAF strike on Gaza.
According to the IDF spokesperson's office, the rocket damaged the structure's rooftop and destroyed most of the second floor of the building, which serves during the day as a daycare center for people with disabilities.
No injuries were reported in the attack.
IDF patrol units have been scanning the area for the rocket's remains.

Hamas vows revenge after Israel kills commander
July  31, 2010
Hamas on Saturday vowed revenge after one of its senior commanders was killed in Israeli air strikes on Hamas-linked targets in the Gaza Strip on Friday night.
"This new stupidity won't easily pass. We promise revenge for the blood of our martyr," the al-Qassam Brigades said in a leaflet faxed to reporters.
The Hamas operative, a 40-year-old member of Hamas' military wing, was killed in an explosion near the Nuseirat refugee camp south of Gaza City in the center of the Hamas-controlled strip. Another 13 Palestinians were hurt.

The dead man is believed to be Issa al-Batran, a commander of Hamas forces in the central Gaza region.
Batran, thought to have been involved in manufaturing rockets, has been the target of a number of Israeli assassination attempts, the most recent of which, in January, killed wife and five children.
The strikes on Gaza, which Palestinian sources described as the heaviest since Operation Cast Lead, Israel's two-week assault on the Gaza Strip a year and a half ago, came after a rocket fired from the Palestinian territory exploded in the city of Ashkelon earlier in the day.

IDF strikes Gaza tunnels
August 1,  2010
Hours after rocket damages public building near Sderot, IAF jets strike arms smuggling tunnel, border fence tunnel in Strip
Air Force on Sunday jets struck two Gaza targets in response to the Qassam rocket fired at the Negev Saturday evening. The targets hit were an arms smuggling tunnel and a tunnel under the border fence used for carrying out terrorist activity inside Israel.
An IDF statement after the attack said, "The military will not tolerate any attempt to harm the citizens of the State of Israel or IDF soldiers and will continue to act determinedly and severely against any element using terror against the State of Israel. The IDF holds the Hamas terror organization as solely responsible for the occurrences in the Gaza Strip and for maintaining calm there."

Following the attack, a mortar shell was fired from the northern Gaza Strip and exploded near Shaar Hanegev Regional Council. There were no reports of damage or injury.

Israel to UN -  Rocket firing hurting peace efforts
Ashkelon is a port city with chemical factories.  Should a missile hit one
August 1,  2010
Official complaint filed with Human Rights Council dubs recent launching of rockets from Gaza Strip 'war crimes, crimes against humanity.' Meanwhile, mortar shell explodes near southern kibbutz; no injuries reported
Israel's UN envoy in Geneva Aharon Leshno Yaar sent a letter to the Human Rights Council over the weekend following the recent rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip. State officials claim the council has a "peculiar obsession" against Israel.

In an official complaint letter sent at the Foreign Ministry's request it was noted that "The indiscriminate launching of rockets at civilians and civilian objects amounts to war crimes and crimes against humanity."
The letter also stated that the attacks hurt the peace process and the resumption of direct talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

"The people of Israel have the right to live in peace and security. The recent attacks on southern Israel from the Gaza Strip seriously violate international law and undermine the peace process and the efforts to renew the direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority,"  it was stated.

A Qassam rocket fired from northern Gaza on Saturday night hit the roof of a building in an educational institution located in the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council, outside of Sderot. There were no reports of injuries. Israel's Air Force responded by targeting a weapons smuggling tunnel on the Egyptian border and a tunnel below the border fence meant to serve terrorists in attacks inside Israeli territory.
A mortar shell fired from the northern Gaza Strip on Sunday morning exploded near a kibbutz in the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council. There were no reports of injuries or damage.

The current round of violence along Israel's border with Gaza began Friday morning, when a Grad rocket fired from the Hamas-ruled territory landed near an apartment building in central Ashkelon. A few hours later two mortars landed within the limits of the Eshkol Regional Council. There were no reports of injury in either attack, but eight people suffered from shock in Ashkelon.,7340,L-3927791,00.html

Rockets fired at southern Israeli city of Eilat
One hits Jordan killing 1 and injuring 4

August 2,  2010    Monday
Gaza Palestinians say a huge explosion early Monday leveled the home of a senior Hamas commander,
causing casualties.  Palestinians claim 17 people were rushed to a hospital.  The Israeli military said there was no Israeli activity in the area.
Often, bombs being prepared in Gaza houses explode accidentally.  Terrorists store weapons in their homes.

Rockets fired early Monday toward the Israeli resort city Eilat, and one hit in neighboring Jordan, injuring 5 people.
One of the five people wounded in the Grad rocket attack on the Jordanian city of Aqaba died of his wounds.
It was the second such attack this year, following a similar volley in April that Israeli authorities say was fired from Egypt's Sinai peninsula.

A series of explosions were heard early Monday in the narrow coast of the Red Sea where Eilat and the Jordanian city of Aqaba are located side by side, both popular tourist destinations.
One rocket hit in Aqaba, exploding on a main street in front of the Intercontinental Hotel, said Jordan.  5 were wounded, one critically.
Two of the wounded were taxi drivers and one of their cars was destroyed.

Police say rockets fired from Sinai fell on city's salt pools area, not in sea as previously reported. Egyptian source confirms rockets fired by Gaza terrorists

Contrary to earlier reports, the two rockets that fell in the Eilat and Aqaba region on Monday landed in the salt pools area and not in the sea as previously suggested,
Southern District Police Commander Yohanan Danino said Wednesday. Danino, speaking at a press conference, emphasized that recent events had placed the southern city on the list of areas threatened by terror.

Also Wednesday, Egyptian security sources confirmed the rockets were fired from the Sinai Peninsula and claimed that armed Palestinians from Gaza were responsible.

"The preliminary information that the security has received indicates that Palestinian factions from the Gaza Strip are behind that operation," the unnamed Egyptian source told the state MENA agency.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri criticised the Egyptian claim, calling it politically motivated. "This sounds silly and does not depend on any actual reasonable evidence," he said.

The rockets hit Israel's and Jordan's Red Sea ports, killing a Jordanian civilian and injuring three others, Jordanian and Israeli police said.

Commander Moshe Cohen presented footage showing the two rockets exploding one after the other, with a time difference of 29 seconds.

"After analysis, we understand that the two rockets fell in the same area," Danino said. He corrected what Eilat Mayor Meir Yitzhak Halevi and chairman of Hotel Association had said, suggesting the rockets were a chance event: "Eilat is on the map of terror organizations. We know of intentions throughout the year," he said.

"The events that took place here a few months ago, when rockets fell in the sea, brought up this threat which has become relevant to this area.
After Monday's incident, which we view gravely, we have met to assess the situation with the army and Shin Bet and decide what should be done."

However, he said he did not expect rocket fire to become a routine part of Eilat residents' lives.
"If these events continue, and we experience another such attack, we know how to respond.  I think the chances of this happening are low."

"Armed Palestinians from Gaza were responsible for the firing of rockets," an Egyptian security source claimed, adding that the rockets were launched from the Sinai Peninsula.

Egypt's official news agency MENA agreed with this assessment:
"The preliminary information that the security has received indicates that Palestinian factions from the Gaza Strip are behind that operation," the state news agency quoted an unnamed security source as saying.,7340,L-3930130,00.html

Gaza Upset over Lebanon crisis

Egypt arrests men who planned Sharm terror attacks
August 8,  2010

Sinai Bedouins apprehended three men in vehicle containing bomb-making equipment a few days before rocket attack on Eilat.
Five days prior to last week's rocket attack on Eilat and the Jordanian port city of Aqaba, three people were arrested in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula for allegedly planning to carry out terror attacks in Sharm el-Sheikh.

The 3 were detained while travelling in a vehicle containing bomb-making equipment and explosives, the report said.
They were apprehended by Bedouins who work in the tourism industry and then transferred to the custody of Egyptian security forces.

The Bedouins claim the detainees are linked to the rocket attack, but Egyptian security officials have ruled out this possibility.
A large amount of gunpowder was found in the vehicle, as was another substance used to make explosive devices, the report said.

"Authorities questioned the suspects regarding their connection to those who fired the rockets on Eilat and Aqaba," an Egyptian official was quoted as saying.
The suspects were not carrying any identification at the time of their arrest.
"A number of people have been arrested for suspicion of having ties to terror organizations. They are not connected to the rocket fire," another Egyptian official was quoted as saying.
"We do not believe the rocket fire originated in Sinai," he said.,7340,L-3931703,00.html

Lebanon's crisis strikes discord in Palestinian Gaza
August 11, 2010    debka
Beirut is caught in a vice between pro-Iranian and pro-Syrian factions over the Saudi move to pull Syria away from its support for the Lebanese Shiite Hizballah and Tehran's counter-moves.
In Palestinian Gaza, this conflict is reflected in the strains breaking surface between the ruling Hamas, whose political secretary Khaled Meshaal is based in Damascus, and the Jihad Islami, Tehran's Palestinian arm.
Both have put their armed men on the ready for a showdown which could end in the carving-up of the densely populated, tiny (360 sq. km.) Palestinian enclave.

Saturday night, Aug. 7, Hamas' Ezzedine al-Qassam and Jihad's Saraya al Qods-Jerusalem Battalions ordered a general mobilization.
Except for Israeli military units stationed near the Gaza border and certain intelligence circles, this brink-of-factional war went unnoticed in Jerusalem and Israel's media, which are preoccupied with unending domestic political disputes.

Situation in the Gaza strip "explosive" thanks to the extreme steps the two feuding Palestinian factions have set in motion:
1.  Their two armed forces have called up reserves, corralled them inside towns across Gaza and are holding them ready to step into flare-ups as reinforcements;
2.   The two armed groups are under orders not to rest: they must stay in uniform, hold their side arms ready and keep awake.
3.  Both Hamas and Jihad have broken open their weapons stores and are distributing arms around neighborhoods they regard as loyal bastions.
4.  Both threaten to use against each other the missiles they have stocked up for attacking Israel;

Our sources are holding tight in the hope that outbreaks of violence building up in the Gaza Strip do not spill over the border into Israel.

4 Israelis shot dead by terrorists in West Bank

Israeli security forces will do everything they can to capture the murderers. Israel will not allow terrorists to lift their heads and will exact a price from the murderers and those who sent them."

The four victims, described by a settler spokesman as a couple who had been in a vehicle and two additional people who were hitching a ride, were driving on Route 60 near the entrance of Kiryat Arba when their vehicle came under fire.

The attack is likely an attempt by the low-life terrorists to prevent the diplomatic process and to hurt the chances of the talks opening in Washington tomorrow.
Hamas military wing spokesman Abu Obeida told The Associated Press late Tuesday that Hamas carried out the attack.

The IDF was investigating two possibilities – that Palestinian terrorists had laid an ambush alongside the road or that the shots were fired from a passing car.

IDF troops immediately launched searches for the perpetrators and the Central Command decided to raise the level of alert out of fear that Palestinian terrorists will increase efforts to perpetrate attacks in the coming days with the goal of torpedoing the peace summit in Washington.

Following the attack, the Israel Police's Operations Branch sent out an order to all officers in the Judea and Samaria district calling on them to increase their awareness and be on the look out for potential terror attacks, while maintaining security in the area.

Gaza rocket fire draws Israeli air strikes

Israeli aircraft struck targets in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip on Saturday after Palestinian militants fired a rocket from the territory into Israel, security officials and witnesses said.

The cross-border violence was the first since Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met in Washington on Thursday to relaunch peace talks, and was a stark reminder of the obstacles both leaders face.

Early on Saturday, Gaza militants fired a rocket into southern Israel, causing no injuries, the Israeli military said.

Hours later, witnesses and Hamas security officials said Israeli aircraft fired rockets at targets in Gaza, including smuggling tunnels along the border with Egypt. At least two people were wounded, medical workers said.
An Israeli military spokesman said he was checking the report.

The Islamists of Hamas routed forces loyal to Abbas to take over the Gaza Strip in 2007. Hamas rejects Abbas’s peace moves and said on Thursday that 13 militant groups had agreed to work together to launch “more effective attacks””against Israel.

Hamas has claimed responsibility for two shooting attacks in the past week in the West Bank, where Abbas holds sway, including one that killed four Israelis.

Top Hamas operative killed in pre-Yom Kippur IDF counter-terror operation
Israel raided the Nur a-Shams camp in the West Bank town of Tulkarm and killed Iyad Assad Ahmad Abu Shalbaya,
deputy chief of the Hamas cells which waylaid and murdered 4 Israelis near Hebron on Aug. 30 and injured a couple at the Rimonim junction on Sept. 1

This was Israel's first major operation against known Palestinian terrorist chiefs in some years.
It was carried out after Palestinian security forces failed to catch up with the perpetrators.

Shalbaya was caught in the dragnet the IDF and undercover units have cast across the northern and southern West Bank areas since early this week to thwart the wave of terror Hamas threatened for the purpose of derailing talks with the Palestinians and hitting Israel over the Jewish Yom Kippur festival which begins Friday night.
The Palestinians claim Shalbaya was killed in his bed. So what?  He is a murderer deserving EXECUTION!
The Israeli army spokesman reports he was shot as he ran toward them in a threatening manner and refused to stop.

debka reports that the Hamas cell leader smuggled in from Syria for the drive-by attacks which killed 4 Israelis and injured two others, managed to escape. The pursuit for him continues.

The two were killed when Israeli troops backed by Shin Bet operatives, air cover and the police anti-terror squad  closed in on three Hebron houses in which the wanted Hamas terrorists were holed up and refused to surrender. One of the houses was bulldozed and several occupants detained.
debkafile's counter-terror sources reveal: Nashat Al-Karmi, aged 34, was born in Hebron and lived there with his wife. He graduated from the local college with a degree in technological engineering. His first brush with Israeli troops occurred in 1999 when he was picked up in a counter-terror swoop and spent three years in jail. In 2004 he suffered a serious gunshot wound to the stomach and was confined to a wheelchair.

This is peace?
Gaza Palestinian terrorists idea of peace is - they can shoot and kill Israelis, but Israel cannot retaliate.
Please dont be deceived by the media.  Dont call it a cycle of violence.  Dont call the land 'occupied' which GOD gave Jews forever.
I checked CNN and BBC websites, and they DO NOT report fairly - as usual.
They are controlled by the globalists and want the sheepl to hate Israel.

U.S. Missile targets Al Qaeda car in Gaza

November 4, 2010

First US targeted assassination in Gaza pre-empts next Al Qaeda offensive
A missile fired from an American warship in the Mediterranean hit the car Muhammad Jamal A-Namnam was driving in Gaza City, and killed him.
Namnam was commander of the Army of Islam, Al-Qaeda cell in the Gaza Strip.  He was on a mission to plan the next wave of terrorist attacks on US targets after air package bomb plots.
Palestinians were planning to infiltrate northern Sinai from Gaza and strike Americans in days.

Israelis tracked and may have pinpointed Namnam for targeting by the US missile that killed him.
Hamas security sources in Gaza now suspect that Israel had its own reasons for permitting new cars to be imported to the Gaza Strip for the first time in two years, knowing that they would be commandeered for the personal use of the chiefs of armed organizations, including Namnam. They believe Israel planted tracking devices in those vehicles.

The blast was unusually powerful and reverberated through the city.  My guess is because the car was loaded with explosives.

Israeli wounded in Negev attack

Shell fired by Gaza Hamas terrorists hits Eshkol Regional Council; man evacuated to hospital with light injuries.
An Israeli man sustained light wounds Wednesday night when a mortar fired from northern Gaza exploded in the western Negev's Eshkol Regional Council.

The man was evacuated to the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba with injuries to his upper body after he was treated by IDF forces at the scene.
Council officials said a total of five shells were launched from the Hamas-ruled territory, adding that residents in the area were instructed to enter secure rooms.,7340,L-3996581,00.html

The Israeli Air Force early Thursday morning struck three terror sites in the Gaza Strip, responding to a barrage of mortar shells fired Wednesday night in which one Israeli man was wounded.
The IDF spokesperson said that the air strikes targeted a weapons facility in central Gaza and two centers of terrorist activity in the northern Strip.

Hamas renews attacks on Israel

December 21, 2010

The escalating Palestinian violence from Gaza is the fault of Khahled Meshaal in Damascus.
Khaled Meshaal keeps the Israeli kidnapt soldier Gilead Shalit as his personal asset.
Meshaal is in complete control, and his goal is to seize all the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.
He has prompted escalating attacks and kidnapping operations inside Israel and the deadlocked negotiations for liberating Shalit.

Hamas is gearing up for a showdown.
Dec. 20 marked a change in tactics, aiming straight for a military target in the Eshkol district abutting Gaza.
Therefore, the Israeli air force had to hit 7 sites in Gaza in self defense.
Poor Shalit is an irreplaceable asset for Meshaal.

The terrorists were spotted by soldiers as they were approaching the security fence in south Gaza, near the Suffa crossing.
Nearly 30 rockets and mortars have been fired toward Israel over the past week.

                       Israel tanks vs Hamasland, Gaza

January 18, 2011   Tuesday

Try to clearly and quickly DISCERN the intensity of press / media bias reporting this!
The first report I saw said Israeli tanks enter Palestinian Territories.  The intensity of this LIE is the equivelent of saying
Russian tanks enter New York City.  Foreign invasion!  Planned to incite the world against Israel.

THERE ARE NO 'Palestinian Territories'
Israel must defend their peoples from attacks by terrorists who lives and shoot on Israel from Gaza, Israel.
Gaza is still Israel.  There is NO PALESTINE!

IDF fired at 2 terrorists who approached the security fence in Gaza to plant an explosive device.
The soldiers fired a tank shell and at least of of the suspects was injured.
Of course there are tanks - on the Israel side of the Gaza border!

LIE - This was actually reported but untrue
7 Israeli tanks entered the Gaza Strip accompanied by a bulldozer.

Gaza strike killed terrorist   December  9,  2011
Palestinians report 2 killed, several hurt in Israeli air strike on car in Gaza.
A Palestinian terrorist was planning attack on the Egypt border.
Palestinian rockets fired from Gaza continue daily to fall on southern Israel.

Israeli strikes kill 3 in Gaza, rockets hit Israel
Violence across the Israeli-Gaza border escalated on Friday with Israeli air strikes killing at least three people and Palestinian militants firing rockets deep into southern Israel.
The latest round of fighting erupted on Thursday when an Israeli air strike targeted a car on a crowded Gaza street, killing two militants who Israel said were planning attacks against its civilians and soldiers.

Palestinian gunmen responded with a barrage of rockets fired deep into southern Israel, some landing near the city of Beersheba, causing no injuries.
Early on Friday, Palestinian medical officials said a second Israeli air strike hit a Hamas training camp in Gaza City, sending shrapnel flying into nearby houses, killing one civilian and wounding 13 others, mostly women and children.

Every day rockets hit Israel from Gaza.  Israel needs to go in and clean it out to protect its people.
The Palestinian devils keep their wives and children with them when they fire rockets at Israel, so when Israel defends itself, they use their own children for propaganda.
To use one's family as human shields is inhuman.

Hamas has established forward bases and rocket production facilities in the Sinai Peninsula in an effort to protect them from Israeli air strikes.

Egypt is no longer an ally of the USA or Israel.  Newt is completely correct on this.
Arafat invented Palestinian as a means to wipe out Israel.  Arafat was Egyptian, born in Cairo, died of AIDS.

Palestinians are invented
Newt Gingrich is contending for his turn in the White House. He recently referred to Palestinians as an invented people.  This is the absolute truth.
A State of Palestine has never existed.  It was part of the Ottoman Empire.
The Palestinians are Arabs and for the Arab community we have sustained this war against Israel now since the 1940s, and it's tragic.

One other thing I agree with Newt about is that he would have John Bolton be Secretary of State.
Take that you lousy U.N. losers.  Surprised

IDF discovers 2nd bomb on Egypt-Israeli border
February 27, 2012  Monday
The IDF intercepted a large bomb that was being moved from Egypt to Israel last week.
The explosive is the second seized by security forces in the in the area in recent days.

A regular patrol aimed at preventing smuggling efforts... identified the smugglers.
The terrorists evaded capture and returned to Egyptian territory.
Soldiers summoned a bomb disposal unit, which detonated the device from a distance.

“The Israel-Egypt border has recently turned into an area that is filled with activities of terrorist elements from the Gaza Strip and Sinai,” IDF Spokesman Brig.-Gen. Yoav Mordechai said recently. The army increased its ground patrols to thwart plots aimed at striking Israeli civilian population centers, he said.
Last week, the IDF and the Israel Police intercepted a powerful bomb on the Egyptian border, and said it could have been used to carry out a mass-casualty attack in a southern community.

The bomb was found on the Israeli end of the Sinai-Gaza border, near the Philadelphi Corridor, by security forces who were carrying out antismuggling operations at night.
A man who was spotted carrying a bag threw down the item and fled back into Egypt, escaping capture.

“These incidents prove that smuggling routes... are exploited all the time by terrorist groups in order to carry out attacks on Israeli civilians and IDF forces,” the army said. “The alertness of soldiers and their successful acts prevented a terrorist attack.”

Gaza has Chinese C-704 missiles

Chinese Missiles in Gaza[/color] Aimed at Israel [/b]
Hamas is in possession of missiles made in China, and hopes to get its hands on more, according to the Israel Defense website.
Israel has previously intercepted Chinese missiles being smuggled into Gaza. Several C-704 missiles were among the many tons of weapons found hidden aboard the “human aid” ship Victoria last year.
Updated versions of the missiles include a warhead with 19 kilograms of explosives surrounded by metal fragments. The fragments increase casualty rates on impact.
The three-meter missiles have a range of up to 40 kilometers.
Hamas possesses only the missiles themselves, and not the launchers designed to give greater accuracy. Instead, Gaza terrorists use simple ground launchers to send the missiles at Israeli population centers.
Several dozen armies worldwide use the rockets Hamas hopes to obtain. The terrorist group has previously been given weapons by Middle East regimes, including Iran and Syria.

A Soviet SA-7 was fired at an Israeli military helicopter last week and missed.

Civilian aircraft, including non-Israeli jets, are also at risk.
Muslim Brotherhood fired 2 SA-7 at an Israeli Arkia Airlines charter carrying 271 passengers and crew shortly after takeoff from Mombasa airport in Kenya Nov. 28, 2002.
Both missed the Boeing 757.

Palestinian militants tried to shoot down an Israeli airliner over Rome in the 1970s, but so far no Israeli civilian aircraft has been hit, although hundreds of people have been killed in several other SAM attacks around the world over the last 40 years.

It's not clear if the attack on the helicopter over Gaza was thwarted by a defensive system, but the use of a SAM, even one as relatively unsophisticated as the Strela, marks a dangerous new threat to Israel.

The Israelis have been concerned that Hellzballah in Lebanon also acquired SAMs.
The SAMs supposedly have been largely deployed around the launch sites and underground depots for the estimated 43,000 missiles and rockets the Israelis maintain Hezbollah possesses.

These would be primary targets for the Israeli air force if hostilities erupt again as Israeli leaders are determined to prevent a feared Hezbollah bombardment, which could last for several weeks with hundreds of missiles fired every day against Israeli cities.

Israel threatens to overthrow Palestinian government

Israel air strikes continue after death of Hamas military chief
November 14, 2012, 5:35 PM
Hamas announced: We are now at war with Israel. Jabari, 52, was killed  caught driving in a black Mercedes in Gaza City. Hamas has announced a general call-up and threatened to respond not just with rockets but suicide attacks. Israeli sources say the air operation called Pillar of Cloud is underway against more Hamas leaders and its military infrastructure and rocket stocks across the Gaza Strip until peace is restored to southern Israel.
Israeli is on high alert in expectation of a furious Hamas reprisal for the loss of its leading terror strategist. Areas such as Gedera and Gan Yavneh which have escaped most missile attacks may now be targeted. Israel may also expect repercussions from Cairo since Jabari was a favorite of the ruling Muslim Brotherhood and his death occurred the day after Egypt brokered a ceasefire in the missile offensive from the Gaza Strip. That “ceasefire” was violated Wednesday with five Grad rockets against the Eshkol district.

Egypt recalls envoy
Nov 14, 2012, 10:24 PM

The Palestinians fired 50 rockets from Gaza after an Israeli air assault killed the Hamas military chief Ahmed Jabari and destroyed a long list of missile sites. Iron Dome intercepted 17 of the incoming rockets against Beersheba (three salvoes), Ashdod and Eshkol. None caused casualties. Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, after some hesitation, decided not to issue a statement on the Israeli operation. Instead, he recalled his ambassador from Tel Aviv and decided to call a UN Security Council session to stop “Israeli aggression.” The Israeli ambassador was summoned to hear Egypt's foreign ministry. So far, Cairo has not acted to sever relations.
After confirming the death of the master-terrorist Ahmed Jabari, commander of Hamas’s military arm, Ezz e-din al-Qassam, Hamas announced: We are now at war with Israel. Jabari, 52, was killed by a targeted Israeli air attack in Gaza City. A key figure in the radical Palestinian Hamas movement, he was caught driving in a black Mercedes in Gaza City.
Hamas has announced a general call-up and threatened to respond not just with rockets but suicide attacks inside Israel. Its leaders warned that their Fajr-5 rockets had a range of 75 kilometers and could reach locations north of Tel Aviv.
Israeli sources say the air operation called Pillar of Cloud aimed at targeting more Hamas leaders, degrading its military infrastructure and demolishing its rocket stocks, especially the long-range Fajrs.
The Israeli Navy joined the air force in striking Palestinian missile sites in southern Gaza from the sea.
In their first report on progress, Wednesday night, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu reported that the wave of Israeli air strikes over Gaza had seriously degraded the Hamas terrorists’ ability to conduct missile attacks on central Israel, despite a major effort to avoid harming civilians. “We are set to expand out counter-terror operation if necessary.” He said.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak said that most of Hamas’s Fajr rockets and their silos had been hit as well as many other strategic sites. Operation Pillar of Cloud had four objectives, said Barak: restoring Israel’s deterrence; seriously reducing the terrorists’ rocket arsenal; harming their high-profile leaders and restoring peace to southern Israel.
The IDF spokesman reported that reserve units are standing by in case a ground operation is called for by a Palestininan escalation. Special police units are on the ready in all parts of Israel for possible terrorist attacks.  Locations within 40 kilometers range of the Gaza Strip were advised to stand ready to take rocket attacks from Gaza until the Operation Pillar of Cloud was over.  All schools within rocket range of the Gaza Strip will remain closed Thursday and emergency services are on high alert. The million Israeli civilians suffering perennial Palestinian rocket assaults are advised to stay close to shelters for the duration of the operation.

Palestinians urge U.N. Security Council action over Israeli raids
11/14/12 UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The Palestinian Authority on Wednesday urged the U.N. Security Council to take a stand on Israel's latest offensive in the Gaza Strip, which it said amounted to "illegal criminal actions."
Israel's U.N. Ambassador Ron Prosor responded by calling on the international community to condemn "indiscriminate rocket fire against Israeli citizens - children, women." Prosor was referring to five days of escalating Palestinian rocket attacks from Gaza.

In a letter to Indian Ambassador Hardeep Singh Puri, president of the 15-nation council this month, Palestinian envoy Riyad Mansour said a "message must be sent to Israel to cease its military campaign against the Palestinian people under its occupation, including the cessation of extrajudicial killing."

"This escalation, which continues at this moment, demands the attention of the international community, including the Security Council, with the aim of averting the further deterioration and destabilization of the situation on the ground and the fueling by Israel of yet another deadly cycle of violence and bloodshed," Mansour said.

Israel launched a new major offensive against Palestinian Hamas militants in Gaza on Wednesday, killing Hamas' military commander in an air strike and threatening an invasion of the enclave that the Islamist group vowed would "open the gates of hell".

Israeli leader threatens 'significant widening' of Gaza military offensive

Israel's prime minister says the army is prepared for a "significant widening" of its operation in the Gaza Strip.

Benjamin Netanyahu told reporters on Thursday that Israel has "made it clear" it won't tolerate continued rocket fire on its civilians.

He says he hopes Hamas has received the message. But if not, he says Israel will take whatever action is necessary to protect its people.

Israel launched the operation on Wednesday, killing Hamas' military chief and attacking dozens of rocket-launching sites.

Officials have said Israel is prepared to broaden the offensive with a ground invasion of Gaza if necessary

Egypt PM to visit Gaza in support of Hamas against Israel
Nov 15, 2012
Egypt's prime minister prepared to visit the Gaza Strip on Friday in an unprecedented display of solidarity with Hamas militants embroiled in a new escalation of conflict with Israel that risks spiraling into all-out war.
Two rockets from Gaza crashed near Tel Aviv in the first such attack on Israel's commercial capital in 20 years. One fell into the Mediterranean Sea and the other in an uninhabited part of one of the Tel Aviv suburbs south of the city.
Two days of Israeli air strikes have killed 19 Palestinians, including seven militants and 12 civilians, among them six children and a pregnant woman. A Hamas rocket killed three Israelis in the town of Kiryat Malachi on Thursday morning.
The latest upsurge in the long-running conflict came on Wednesday when Israel killed Hamas' military mastermind, Ahmed Al-Jaabari, in a precision air strike on his car. Israel then began shelling the coastal enclave from land, air and sea.

Israel and Hamas wage social media fight via social media platforms

JERUSALEM - The hostilities between Israel and Hamas have found a new battleground: social media.

The Israeli Defence Forces and Hamas militants have exchanged fiery tweets throughout the fighting in a separate war to influence public opinion.

Shortly after it launched its campaign Wednesday by killing Hamas' top military commander Ahmed Jabari, the Israeli military's media office announced a "widespread campaign on terror sites & operatives in the (hash)Gaza Strip" on its Twitter account.

It then posted a 10-second black-and-white video of the airstrike on its official YouTube page. Google Inc., which owns YouTube, removed the video for a time early Thursday, but reconsidered and restored it.

A tweet from (at)idfspokesperson said: "We recommend that no Hamas operatives, whether low level or senior leaders, show their faces above ground in the days ahead."

Israel moves on reservists after rockets target cities

Israeli ministers were on Friday asked to endorse the call-up of up to 75,000 reservists after Palestinian militants nearly hit Jerusalem with a rocket for the first time in decades and fired at Tel Aviv for a second day.

The rocket attacks were a challenge to Israel's Gaza offensive and came just hours after Egypt's prime minister, denouncing what he described as Israeli aggression, visited the enclave and said Cairo was prepared to mediate.

Israel's armed forces announced that a highway leading to the Gaza Strip and two roads bordering the enclave would be off-limits to civilian traffic until further notice.

Tanks and self-propelled guns were seen near the border area on Friday, and the military said it had already called 16,000 reservists to active duty.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened senior cabinet ministers in Tel Aviv after the rockets struck to decide on widening the Gaza campaign.

Political sources said ministers were asked to approve the mobilization of up to 75,000 reservists, in what could be preparation for a possible ground operation.

Egypt takes more aggressive, and less neutral, approach to Gaza

Egyptians rallied in cities across the country Friday to show solidarity with Palestinians and to support or criticize Egypt’s new Islamist government, which has enlivened the Arab world with its diplomatic maneuvers and condemnation of Israel.

President Mohamed Morsi has not stopped the fighting between Hamas and Israel, but he has emerged as a more aggressive and less neutral player than his predecessor Hosni Mubarak, who was toppled in last year’s uprising. Morsi’s engagement is a testament to the rising profile of Islamists in the region’s political realignment.

“Morsi has made it clear that Israel’s attacks on Gaza are unacceptable. He used harsher terms than Mubarak,” said Mohamed Shahin, a writer and engineer. But, with an accustomed air of resignation, he added: “I believe Morsi did all he can do at this point. Not much will change in the long run.”

Morsi has withdrawn Egypt’s ambassador from Israel, urged the U.S. to intervene to stop the bloodshed and on Friday sent his prime minister to Gaza to try to broker a cease-fire. But Morsi, a former Muslim Brotherhood leader, was quickly schooled on Egypt’s limitations and the volatile risks it faces when Hamas and Israel traded fire shortly after Prime Minister Hesham Kandil met with Gazan officials.

While many Egyptians have backed Morsi’s stance thus far, others were critical that the government has not taken sharper steps, such as threatening to cut trade with Israel. They suggest Morsi’s approach has been too measured at a time when Israel, through its military action against Hamas, may also be testing Egypt’s resolve.

“We need to exert more pressure on Israel to end this war,” said Ahmed Hassan, a small-business owner. “Sending the prime minister for a couple of hours is not enough. This is not helping the people of Gaza. The airstrikes are resuming. Egypt needs to deal with Gaza like it’s an internal affair. This is a matter of national security.”

Israel's Barak seeks three more Iron Dome rocket interceptors

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Defence Minister Ehud Barak will seek cabinet approval for funds that could provide Israel with three new Iron Dome rocket interceptors, officials said on Friday as cross-border fighting surged in Gaza.

Israel's military air defence corps has four Iron Dome batteries deployed and will receive a fifth from state-owned Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd after Barak rushed its production, his ministry said in a statement.

It said Barak would on Sunday, the beginning of the Israeli work week, ask the cabinet to earmark 750 million shekels ($190 million) for expanding the Iron Dome program. An Israeli official, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, estimated that money would be enough for three more batteries.

First fielded last year, Iron Dome has served as a bulwark against rockets and mortar bombs fired by Palestinian militants in the Hamas-governed Gaza Strip.

Israel launches scores of airstrikes into Gaza

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israel bombarded the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip with nearly 200 airstrikes early Saturday, the military said, widening a blistering assault on Gaza rocket operations to include the prime minister's headquarters, a police compound and a vast network of smuggling tunnels.

The new attacks, which Gaza officials say left 10 dead, followed an unprecedented rocket strike aimed at the contested holy city of Jerusalem that raised the stakes in Israel's violent confrontation with Palestinian militants and extended the battlefield.

Israeli aircraft also kept pounding their original targets, the militants' weapons storage facilities and underground rocket launching sites. They also went after rocket squads more aggressively. The military has called up thousands of reservists and massed troops, tanks and other armored vehicles along the border with Gaza, signaling a ground invasion could be imminent.

Militants, undaunted by the heavy damage the Israeli attacks have inflicted, have unleashed some 500 rockets against the Jewish state, including new, longer-range weapons turned for the first time this week against Jerusalem and the Tel Aviv heartland. Following those attacks, the military deployed an Iron Dome rocket defense battery in central Israel on Saturday. The system, devised precisely to deflect the Gaza rocket threat, was deployed two months earlier than planned, the Defense Ministry said.

Islamist leaders vow unity against Israel

KHARTOUM (Reuters) - At a conference that drew a roll-call of the Islamist leaders who have gained influence in the wake of Arab Spring revolts, Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal won a noisy welcome and pledges of support on Thursday.

A day after Israel assassinated Hamas's top commander in the Gaza Strip in a new offensive, hundreds of delegates at the conference in Sudan burst into applause and cheers as Meshaal, dressed in a suit and open-necked shirt, entered Khartoum's hangar-sized Friendship Hall.

"Khaybar, Khaybar," the crowd chanted as Meshaal shook hands with other Islamist leaders, in a reference to a battle in Arabia where the Prophet Mohammad and his followers defeated Jewish defenders in the 7th century. "The army of Mohammad has started to return."

Although most attendees were Sudanese, some came from as far as Indonesia and Senegal.

Among the delegates were the leaders of the Islamist parties in Egypt and Tunisia that have come to power through the ballot box in the wake of the Arab Spring, a regional shift towards the Islamists that has also helped embolden Hamas.

Gazans watch with pride as Hamas strikes Israel
Nov 17, 2012
Israel's new offensive against the Gaza Strip has turned into a political bonanza for the territory's Hamas rulers, while sidelining Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, their Western-backed rival in the West Bank.
Gazans feeling unfairly attacked by Israel have been watching with gleeful pride as Hamas militants fire rockets deeper than ever into Israel and Arab leaders flock to previously isolated Gaza to show solidarity. Growing collateral damage from Israel's massive aerial bombardments of Hamas targets does not appear to have hurt the Islamists' sudden popularity.

Saed Moaserji, a 19-year-old engineering student from Gaza's Jebaliya refugee camp, said he felt intense pride after Hamas rocket squads for the first time this week targeted Jerusalem.
"I never liked Hamas, but I wished I could kiss the forehead of the one who fired the rocket on Jerusalem," Moaserji said Saturday, standing outside a local Hamas commander's two-story home that had just been flattened in an airstrike.

The support was in sharp contrast to recent months, when the Islamist group seemed to be flailing, riven by internal divisions over the direction of the movement and the refusal of Egypt's new government to lift a Gaza blockade imposed by Israel and the previous regime in Cairo after Hamas seized the territory in 2007.
Meanwhile, a mention of Abbas — formally the leader of all Palestinians — elicited shrugs or even scorn in Gaza.

Egypt president vows to stand by Gaza
Nov. 17, 2012
Egypt's Islamist president says his country will stand by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and demanded Israel stop its latest offensive on the Hamas-ruled territory.
Mohammed Morsi says Egypt "will not leave Gaza on its own" and warned the "aggressor to stop the bloodshed or face the wrath" of Egypt's new leadership and institutions.
Morsi spoke on Friday at a mosque near his house on the outskirts of Cairo. The sermon was his harshest condemnation yet of the Israeli offensive.
Morsi said he dispatched his prime minister to Gaza to send a clear message that Egypt supports the people there and will not tolerate the killing of civilians.
Hamas is an offshoot of Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood terror group in Egypt. The Brotherhood led protests across the country on Friday against Israel.

Russia will back Egyptian efforts to end Israeli aggression
Nov 16, 2012
Russian President Vladimir Putin says his country will back Egyptian efforts to put an end to the Israeli aggression in the besieged Gaza Strip.
In a telephone conversation with Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi on Friday, Putin said Russia planned to support Cairo's efforts directed at normalizing the situation in the Palestinian territory, the Kremlin said in a statement.
The remarks come after Egypt’s Prime Minister Hisham Qandil visited the Gaza Strip on Friday, where he urged the world leaders to stop Tel Aviv’s attacks.
Qandil promised to intensify Egypt’s efforts to “stop this aggression and achieve a lasting truce."

Thousands protest in Egypt against Israeli attacks on Gaza
Nov. 17, 2012
CAIRO (Reuters) - Thousands of people protested in Egyptian cities on Friday against Israeli air strikes on Gaza and Egypt's president pledged to support the Palestinian enclave's population in the face of "blatant aggression".
Western governments are watching Egypt's response to the Gaza conflagration for signs of a more assertive stance towards Israel since an Islamist came to power in the Arab world's most populous nation.

President Mohamed Mursi is mindful of anti-Israeli sentiment among Egyptians emboldened by last year's Arab Spring uprising but needs to show Western allies his new government is no threat to Middle East peace.
His prime minister, Hisham Kandil, visited Gaza on Friday in a demonstration of solidarity after two days of strikes by Israeli warplanes targeting Gaza militants, who had stepped up rocket fire into Israel in recent weeks.

Israel bombards Gaza Strip, shoots down rocket
Nov. 17, 2012
Israel bombarded the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip with about 300 airstrikes Saturday and shot down a Palestinian rocket fired at Tel Aviv, the military said, widening a blistering assault to include the Hamas prime minister's headquarters, a police compound and a vast network of smuggling tunnels.
The intensified airstrikes came as Egyptian-led attempts to broker a cease-fire and end Israel's four-day-old Gaza offensive gained momentum. The leaders of Hamas and two key allies, Qatar and Turkey, were in Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials, and the Arab League was holding an emergency meeting.

The White House said President Barack Obama was also in touch with the Egyptian and Turkish leaders. The U.S. has solidly backed Israel so far.
Speaking on Air Force One, deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes said that the White House believes Israel "has the right to defend itself" against attack and that the Israelis will make their own decisions about their "military tactics and operations."

Israel bombards Gaza Strip, shoots down rocket
Israel destroyed the headquarters of Hamas' prime minister and blasted a sprawling network of smuggling tunnels in the southern Gaza Strip on Saturday, broadening a blistering four-day-old offensive against the Islamic militant group even as diplomatic efforts to broker a cease-fire appeared to be gaining steam.

Hamas officials said a building used by Hamas for broadcasts was bombed and three people were injured. The injured were from Al Quds TV, a Lebanon-based television channel. The building is also used by foreign news outlets including Germany's ARD, Kuwait TV and the Italian RAI and others.

The Israeli military spokesman was not immediately aware of the strikes but said they were investigating.
In neighboring Egypt, President Mohammed Morsi hosted leaders from Hamas and two key allies, Qatar and Turkey, to seek a way to end the fighting.

Egypt, Gaza and the Sinai Peninsula

   Why Hamas Targeted Jerusalem
   Hamas' Rocket Strategy
The Relevance of Israel and Gaza

The conflict in Gaza comes at an interesting time in Egyptian-Israeli relations. Cairo recently saw the Muslim Brotherhood candidate assume the Egyptian presidency, while in the past two years Israel has approved two Egyptian military increases "in the Sinai Peninsula above levels set in the Camp David Accords. The disposition of the forces in Sinai coupled with the presence of the U.N.-mandated Multinational Force and Observers mean at present, Egyptian forces do not pose a significant threat to Israel. How Egypt will respond to the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip remains to be seen, but should the Morsi government or Egypt's military decide to support Gaza, such support would likely consist of turning a blind eye toward militant activities and smuggling in the Sinai Peninsula.

Egypt is one of Israel's most powerful neighbors. Initially hostile to Israel, the two countries have been at peace for nearly 40 years. Following the 1973 Yom Kippur war, the 1978 Camp David Peace Accords between Israel and Egypt established guidelines for what Egypt could do in the Sinai Peninsula in a bid to keep the peace. Strategically, the peace agreement made the peninsula a buffer between Israel and Egypt. It permitted only enough forces in Sinai to enforce security.

The agreement divided the Sinai Peninsula into four zones of increasing neutrality. Egypt is allowed an entire mechanized or infantry division in Zone A, which abuts the Suez Canal. In Zone B, its armed presence is limited to municipal police and border patrol. 1,600 international peacekeepers are spread out across 32 bases in the east of Zone C, and Israel is allowed a limited presence in Zone D.

Periodically, Israel allows Egypt to increase the number of troops east of Zone A for temporary missions with goals like combating militants and criminal smugglers. In 2011, Israel allowed Egypt to send 2,500 troops and 250 armored personnel carriers into the normally demilitarized zones B and C as part of Operation Eagle, a mission to provide security during the power transition from then-recently fallen Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Operation Eagle was joined by Operation Sinai, which came in response to a militant attack against an Egyptian border post Aug. 5 that killed 16 border guards.

Together, the two operations increased the total troop count by more than 2,500 -- the exact troop count of Operation Sinai was in the low hundreds -- added 80 vehicles and, with Israeli Cabinet approval, at least two attack helicopters. Egypt also was allowed to deploy armed fighter jets to El Arish to assist its ground forces in Sinai. Significantly, Israel approved all of these deployments, which are monitored by the 1,600 foreign troops that make up the U.N. Multinational Force and Observers stationed throughout Zone C. Israel did so because it is not in its interest to have unrest in Sinai, whether political protests or militant violence.

Much of the previous militant violence on the Sinai Peninsula has been directed against Israel or Israeli tourists at Sinai beach resorts. Such violence continues, as attested by the four rockets fired at southern Israel from the border town of Rafah on Nov. 14 shortly before Israel announced it had killed Ahmed Jaabari. Like Gaza militants, Egyptian militants are believed to possess Qassam and Grad rockets. Israel is content to allow Egypt to secure Sinai to eradicate these threats.

Egypt's expanded force structure in Sinai is designed to deny militants sanctuary by bringing more force to bear than the municipal police alone can provide. Many of the new forces are stationed in the northeast of Sinai along the Egyptian border with Gaza. The official crossing at Rafah and the many illegal tunnels linking Gaza to Egypt together serve as a significant smuggling corridor along which people, supplies and contraband like drugs and weapons move. Egyptian soldiers have set up roadblocks and checkpoints to monitor and inspect traffic transiting the Sinai Peninsula to counter this smuggling. Egypt has an interest in limiting migrants moving between Egypt and Gaza, as Egypt fears the risk of instability from taking on too many Palestinian refugees. They also fear Israeli retaliation against militants in the Sinai Peninsula should Israel decide Sinai was becoming a militant haven: The Egyptian military has no interest in giving Israel a reason to become involved in Sinai.

The number of troops Egypt has in the Sinai Peninsula now does not pose a direct threat to Israel. If Israel in fact viewed the Egyptian military presence as a threat, it would likely ask Egypt to draw down the expanded troop presence. In fact, the biggest threat the Egyptian military could pose to Israel would be by becoming less involved in Sinai.

Unlike during Operation Cast Lead in 2008, when Egyptian border guards kept the Rafah border crossing closed and even engaged in skirmishes with the Palestinians, Egypt announced Nov. 15 that it would open the border crossing to allow injured persons to seek medical attention in El Arish. It reversed course and closed the border Nov. 16, reflecting the limit on Egyptian humanitarian sentiments when it comes to Rafah and taking into account Egypt's fear of a wave of refugees and militants seeking sanctuary.

If Egypt changes course from 2008 and does not keep the border closed during a ground invasion of Gaza, Israel would have to send troops to the Philadelphi route in Gaza along the border with Egypt to cut the Palestinian territory off from Egypt. This would put Israeli and Egyptian troops closer than they have been for decades, heightening the risks for both sides.

The Rafah Crossing will illustrate Egypt's thinking with regard to the current Israel-Gaza conflict. If Egypt allows the Rafah Crossing to stay open, and especially if it leaves the border open if the fighting in Gaza escalates, Egypt would have decided to oppose Israel, even though it would also be going against its interest to avoid a wave of refugees. Any evidence of Egyptian noncompliance to an Israeli request to draw down the added troops would even more clearly show a rift between the two regional powers.

Obama warns against 'ramping up' in Gaza crisis
BANGKOK (AP) — President Barack Obama said Sunday an incursion by Israel's forces into the Gaza Strip could only deepen its death toll, cautioning against an escalation even as he defended the Jewish state's right to defend itself. Obama also warned Palestinians the crisis could crush peace hopes for years.

"Israel has every right to expect that it does not have missiles fired into its territory," Obama said at the start of a three-nation tour in Asia.

"If that can be accomplished without a ramping up of military activity in Gaza, that's preferable," he said
. "It's not just preferable for the people of Gaza. It's also preferable for Israelis, because if Israeli troops are in Gaza, they're much more at risk of incurring fatalities or being wounded."

Obama's comments came as Israel's campaign against Hamas militants in Gaza blasted into its fifth day. Israel is at a crossroads of whether to launch a ground invasion or pursue Egyptian-led truce efforts. Obama sought to defend the U.S. ally's rights while pushing for a halt in the violence.

Arab ministers back Egypt truce efforts for Gaza

CAIRO (Reuters) - Arab ministers gave their backing on Saturday to Egyptian efforts to secure a truce that would end Israel's offensive on Gaza, they said in a statement after an Arab League meeting in Cairo.

Arab foreign ministers also agreed to form a delegation to travel to the Palestinian enclave in a show of support. League chief Nabil Elaraby told reporters he would lead the team and that the trip was expected to take place in "one or two days".

Ministers meeting at the Cairo-based headquarters had said Arab states had to take practical steps to support Palestinians in Gaza.

Israel launched a massive air campaign on Wednesday with the declared goal of deterring Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist group that runs the Gaza Strip, from launching rockets that have plagued its southern communities for years.

More diplomacy to try to halt Israel-Gaza fighting

GAZA/JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Hostilities between Islamist militants and Israel entered a sixth day on Monday as diplomatic efforts were set to intensify to try to stop rocket fire from the Gaza Strip and Israeli air strikes on Gaza.

International pressure for a ceasefire seemed certain to mount after the deadliest single incident in the flare-up on Sunday claimed the lives of at least 11 Palestinian civilians, including four children.

Three people, including two children, were killed and 30 others were injured in the latest air strike before dawn on Monday on a family home in the Zeitoun neighborhood in Gaza City, medical officials said. The Israeli military had no immediate comment and was checking.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon was due to arrive in Cairo to add his weight to the truce efforts. Egypt has taken the lead in trying to broker a ceasefire and its officials met the parties on Sunday.

Israeli media said a delegation from Israel had been to Cairo for talks on ending the fighting, although a government spokesman declined to comment on the matter.

It's only a matter of time until the AC steps in to act as "referee" in all of this.

Palestinian civilian toll climbs in Gaza

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israeli aircraft struck crowded areas in the Gaza Strip on Monday, driving up the Palestinian death toll to 94 and devastating several homes belonging to one clan as Israel broadened its targets in the 6-day-old offensive meant to quell Hamas rocket fire on Israel.

Escalating its bombing campaign, Israel on Sunday began attacking homes of activists in Hamas, the Islamic militant group that rules Gaza. These attacks have led to a sharp spike in civilian casualties, killing 24 civilians in just under two days and doubling the number of civilians killed in the conflict, a Gaza health official said.

The rising toll was likely to intensify pressure on Israel to end the fighting. Hundreds of civilian casualties in an Israeli offensive in Gaza four years ago led to fierce international condemnation of Israel.

Hamas fighters, meanwhile, have fired hundreds of rockets into Israel in the current round of fighting, including 75 on Monday, among them one that hit an empty school. Twenty rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile battery, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said. Rockets landed in open areas of Beersheva, Ashdod, Asheklon. Schools in southern Israel have been closed since the start of the offensive Wednesday.

Russia accuses U.S. of blocking U.N. action on Israel-Gaza conflict
Nov 19, 2012
UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Russia accused the United States on Monday of blocking a bid by the U.N. Security Council to condemn the escalating conflict between Israel and Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and said other council members were filibustering the issue.
Russia's U.N. envoy Vitaly Churkin said he was prepared to introduce a resolution - a stronger move by the council than a statement - to call for an end to the violence and show support for regional and international efforts to broker peace.

Churkin said he would draft a resolution if agreement could not be reached among the 15 council members on a statement, which has to be approved by consensus. A resolution is passed when it receives nine votes in favor and no vetoes by the five permanent council members - Russia, China, Britain, the United States and France.

"One member of the Security Council, I'm sure you can guess which, indicated ... they will not be prepared to go along with any reaction of the Security Council," said Churkin, making a thinly veiled reference to the United States.
"Somehow, allegedly, that could hurt the current efforts carried out by Egypt and the region," he said.

Israeli pilots often ordered to call off air strikes at last moment.
The radio message to the Israel Air Force pilot en route to bombing a Hamas rocket launcher in Gaza came in loud and clear: Abort mission, Civilians spotted.
It was one of many occasions in which pilots were ordered to call off air strikes in the last moment, after real-time footage of the target area revealed the presence of Palestinian non-combatants.

Hamas uses the densely populated Gaza Strip as a rocket base, often shooting the projectiles from the tops of residential buildings, or near schools, mosques, and other public places.  This is typical Evil Islam.  Palestinians esire death more than Jews desire life.
Hamas TV campaigns instruct the population that bombs are more precious than children.
Weapons are hidden in Gazan homes, and senior terrorists often remain in homes surrounded by civilians.

Gazans celebrate "victory" over Israel
Nov. 22, 2012
GAZA (Reuters) - Gazans savoured the calm that pervaded their coastal enclave on Thursday after an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire halted eight days of relentless Israeli bombardment that killed 162 people.
Despite the death and destruction, many were buoyant, echoing assertions of the Gaza Strip's Islamist Hamas rulers that their rocket salvoes, which reached Tel Aviv and Jerusalem for the first time, had trumped Israel's military might.

"Congratulations on your victory," passersby said as they shook hands with Hamas traffic policemen back on the streets after days in hiding to avoid Israeli bombs and missiles.
But joy mingled with grief as many Palestinians walked by wrecked houses and government buildings, glimpsing shredded clothing, ruined furniture and cars half-buried in the rubble.

Fighting ended late on Wednesday after the Hamas movement and Israel accepted a truce, although doubt abounded on both sides that this would be anything more than a pause in a deadly struggle between deeply distrustful adversaries.
Jubilant crowds celebrated in Gaza, most waving green Hamas flags, but hundreds with the yellow emblems of the rival Fatah group led by Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Day after president brokered Gaza truce, Egypt's Brotherhood leader slams peace with Israel
CAIRO - The leader and top cleric of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood has denounced peace efforts with Israel, urging holy war to liberate Palestinian territories.
Mohammed Badei's call Thursday comes just a day after Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi, who also hails from the Brotherhood, succeeded in brokering a truce to end eight days of Israel-Hamas fighting.

Under the deal, Gaza's ruling Hamas is to stop rocket fire into Israel while Israel is to cease airstrikes and allow the opening of the strip's long-blockaded borders.
Badei says "jihad is obligatory" for Muslims and that peace deals with Israel are a "game of grand deception." He says there's been enough negotiations, the "enemy knows nothing but language of force."
The Brotherhood and its members don't recognize Israel and refuse to hold direct talks with Israelis.

Palestinians, Arab-Israeli arrested for Tel Aviv bus bombing
November 23, 2012
Israel’s domestic security agency arrested several Palestinians for allegedly blowing up a bus in Tel Aviv.
The Shin Bet revealed that its agents had arrested the suspects, including an Arab Israeli, for the attack earlier this week on a bus, Israeli media reported. The security service did not say how many suspects were arrested.

The Arab Israeli suspect, a resident of Taibeh near Kfar Saba, placed the explosive device on the bus and notified his commander by phone, who set it off, Shin Bet said.
Of the 28 Israelis wounded in the bombing, five remained hospitalized on Thursday, one in serious condition.
The Israeli suspect was born in the West Bank and acquired Israeli citizenship through the family unification process, which naturalizes Palestinians married to Israelis, according to the news site Ynet.

The bomb was built in the West Bank and transported to Israel in a car belonging to the employer of the Arab Israeli suspect without the employer’s knowledge.
In preliminary interrogations, the cell’s members said they were connected to Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
The Shin Bet said the interrogation was ongoing and that further arrests were expected.

Truce agreement says nothing about stopping the flow of weapons into Gaza
November 24, 2012
The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas which ended Operation Pillar of Defense does not include Egyptian guarantees to prevent the smuggling of weapons to Gaza, said a senior Hamas official.
Izzat al-Rishq, a member of the terrorist organization’s political bureau, wrote on his Facebook page that Israel was attempting to protect its image following defeat.

“It is not true what some people are saying that the ceasefire agreement included the approval of Egypt to prevent the smuggling of weapons to Gaza in conjunction with US special units.  These leaks are an Israeli attempt to mitigate the impact of defeat,” he posted.
This week, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad terror organization, which is closely allied with Iran, said that the group would continue to rearm in Gaza

The Vatican on Gaza: Israel is a Baby-Killer” Evil or Very Mad
Not a word was heard from the Vatican all the years Sderot babies were in mortal danger. They began noticing the violence last week.
Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, President of the Vatican Council for Culture, commenting on the war between Israel and Hamas, delivered a severe attack on the Jewish people: “I think of the ‘massacre of the innocents’. Children are dying in Gaza, their mothers’ shouts is a perennial cry, a universal cry”.

The Catholic Church high official equated Israel’s operation in Gaza against terror groups with the New Testament story of Herod’s slaughter of Jewish babies in his effort to kill Jesus.
Ravasi, who is one of the most popular Catholic cardinals and the director of the Church’s policy on culture, called Israelis baby-killers in a shameless form of anti-Semitism which subtly accuses the Jewish State of trying to murder the new Jesus, symbolized by the Palestinian people.

The Vatican official’s modern blood libel against Israel was delivered during the presentation of Pope Benedict’s new book about the life of Jesus. However, Ravasi's theme – the Jews as Herod, who killed all the innocent babies because his heart was set on killing Jesus – was much beloved by Medieval organizers of pogroms.

The Vatican is the worst kind of Satanism

Iran moves to rearm Hamas

A Khartoum Sudan weapons plant acted as a transit point for weapons shipments to Gaza.
Sudan is supported by Iran and used as a route to transfer weapons to Hamas terrorists in Gaza via Egypt.
Longer-range missiles in Sudan could be aimed at Israel.
Iran intends to re-arm Hamas quickly.
(Now it will be a test of Obama to see if U.S. troops in Sinai stop this.  I have my doubts.)
Even while ceasefire was being negotiated, missiles for Gaza were being loaded onto Iran cargo ship.
