Bob Coy resigns as pastor over moral failing
April 7, 2014 Was it with a woman - or a man?
The pastor of one of America's biggest churches has stepped down from leadership amid accusations of an extra-marital affair.
Bob Coy was Senior Pastor at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale in Florida for almost 30 years, which has approximately 20,000 members and 1,000 staff.
A statement released by the church on Sunday reads: "On April 3, 2014, Bob Coy resigned as Senior Pastor effective immediately,
after confessing to a moral failing in his life which disqualifies him from continuing his leadership role at the church he has led since its founding in 1985."
Though the church has not confirmed exactly what the "moral failing" is, many speculate that Coy has been unfaithful to his wife of over 30 years, Diane, with whom he has two children.
Calvary Chapel is the 14th largest church in the US, with assets of an estimated $135 million. Its congregation was stunned by the announcement of Coy's departure during a packed meeting on Sunday evening, where a letter of apology from the former pastor was read out.
"Most people were shocked," church member Robert Milne told Sun Sentinel.
"A lot of people were hurt; a lot of people are disappointed."
Coy had spoken extensively on human weaknesses in the past.
The official statement released on Calvary Chapel's website says that having stepped down from his position,
Coy will now be "focussing his full attention on his personal relationship with God and with his family.
The governing board of the church is providing counsellors and ministers who will help guide him through the process of full repentance, cleansing and restoration."
"Trusting in God's providence, protection, provision and direction, the staff of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale will continue our mission to 'make disciples,' through regular services at all campuses and through a myriad of other ministries the church has established over the years.
"A team of assistant pastors already on staff will maintain their usual rotating schedule as teaching pastors for all services."
I went to Bob Coy's church when I lived in Florida in the 1990s.
I knew something was wrong then.
One of the youth workers was messing with the kids and got in legal trouble.
SO MANY pastors and youth leaders are into porn and immorality today.
I pulled some info from other threads to add

Calvary Chapel founder Chuck Smith dies of cancer
October 7, 2013 Chuck Smith dies after a battle with lung cancer.
Renowned California pastor founded Calvary Chapel movement.
Chuck Smith, the evangelical pastor whose outreach to hippies in the 1960s helped transform worship styles in American Christianity and fueled the rise of the Calvary Chapel movement, died Oct. 3, 2013. He was 86.
Smith continued to preach at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa (California), where he'd been pastor since 1965.
It was his openness to new cultural styles, including laid-back music and funky fashions of California's early surfer scene, that helped him reach young idealists and inspire a trend toward seeker-sensitive congregations.
"He led a movement that translated traditional conservative Bible-based Christianity to a large segment of the baby boom generation's counterculture. His impact can be seen in every church service that has electric guitar-driven worship, hip casually-dressed pastors, and 40-minute sermons consisting of verse-by-verse Bible expositions peppered with pop-culture references and counterculture slang."
"Lifestyle issues and morality issues were things that he would expect Christ would clean up in these folks lives," said Larry Eskridge, associate director of the Institute for the Study of American Evangelicals at Wheaton College. "But the informality of these folks and the music they were fond of – he was willing to let that slide quite a bit."
Together with hippie Lonnie Frisbee, Smith helped propel the Jesus People Movement,
with its embrace of Christ's teachings and disavowal of institutional church trappings.
Lonnie Frisbee was as homosexual who died of AIDS.
Smith also pioneered translations of Gospel teachings into 20th-century pop art forms. In 1971, he launched Maranatha! Music, a pioneering record label designed to promote the "Jesus music" that his young followers were producing on the California coast.
John Todd said how Christian Rock/CCM got its start when the Illuminati funded money to
Chuck Smith/Calvary Chapel to start Smith's Marantha! Music.
David Cloud(Way of Life ministries) pretty much confirmed this too.
Never a denominational man, Smith forged a different type of fellowship among congregations as word of his success spread. Calvary Chapels, concentrated largely in coastal population centers, reflect Smith's preferences for authoritative male pastors, expository preaching and openness to contemporary music. What Eskridge describes as "restrained exuberance" in worship has spread from Costa Mesa to Calvary Chapels on the East Coast and beyond.
[quote="BornAgain2:29434" Oct 2013 Yet it was his openness to new cultural styles, including laid-back music and funky fashions of California's early surfer scene, that helped him reach young idealists and inspire a trend toward seeker-sensitive congregations.
"He led a movement that translated traditional conservative Bible-based Christianity to a large segment of the baby boom generation's counterculture," says Brad Christerson, a Biola University sociologist who studies charismatic churches in California. "His impact can be seen in every church service that has electric guitar-driven worship, hip casually-dressed pastors, and 40-minute sermons consisting of verse-by-verse Bible expositions peppered with pop-culture references and counterculture slang."[/quote]
Apparently, the seeds for this Emergent, seeker-sensitive, post-contemporary church movement were planted a LONG time ago - pt being that some of these popular mainstream end times message forums out there will go through and through to expose Rick Warren, Brian McLaren, and the Emergent Church being the Apostate last days "church" since the turn of the 21st century. However, these are the same ministries that not only stay silent on Smith/Calvary Chapel, but SUPPORT the Calvary Chapel system through and through.
So basically they will expose Warren and Hybels for bringing in New Age teachings, sodomy and rock music, but they will endorse Chuck Smith/Calvary Chapel that do the same. So ultimately, they're quietly pointing you back to the Emergent Church as a "good" church. It's nothing more than a sly bait and switch game on their part.
He also helped jump-start this whole "Christian" media empire, megachurch, seeker-sensitive, church marketing, etc which we are witnessing the explosion now. All Rick Warren and Bill Hybels are doing is putting the final nail in the coffin.
He also was funded by the Illuminati to form Marantha! Music, which put out Christian Rock/CCM(according to John Todd and David Cloud - not that I endorse both of these men, but nonetheless it's been confirmed by other sources).
Also - from what I've noticed with some of these internet "discernment" ministries like Rapture Ready is that while they expose Warren, Hybels, McLaren, and the Emergent Church through and through, they will point people to Smith/Calvary Chapel(ie-one of their mods is a CC pastor). So pretty much they are pointing people BACK to follow the heresies they've exposed Warren and Hybels for. endquote
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Eph 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Unity around "another Jesus". Not unity around the Word of God, the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Contemporary Christian Music and Homosexuality
By David Cloud
March 13, 2014
In The Gospel Sound, which first appeared in 1971, Anthony Heilbut said,
“The gospel church has long been a refuge for gays and lesbians, some
of whom grew up to be among the greatest singers and musicians.”
Douglas Harrison, a homosexual who grew up Southern Baptist, said, “...
you can’t swing a Dove Award without hitting upon evidence of the
longstanding, deep-set presence of queer experience in, and its
influence on, Christian music culture at all levels” (“Come Out from among Them,”
Religion Dispatches, April 30, 2010).
In 1998, CCM star Kirk Franklin said that “homosexuality ... is a problem
today in gospel music--a MAJOR CONCERN--and everybody knows it” (Church
Boy, pp. 49, 50).
James Cleveland, who has been called the “King of Gospel,” was a
homosexual who died of AIDS.
Marsha Stevens, author of the popular song “For Those Tears I Died (Come
to the Water),” co-founded Children of the Day, one of the first contemporary Christian groups associated with
Calvary Chapel. In 1979, Marsha broke her sacred marriage vows and divorced
her husband of seven years, by whom she had two children, because she
had “fallen in love with a woman.” Eventually Marsha “married” Cindi
Stevens-Pino who she calls “my wife.” She started her own label called
BALM (Born Again Lesbian Music) and performs between 150 and 200
concerts a year. She has a program called “upBeat” through which she produces a praise and worship
album annually with a variety of singers and songwriters.
Marsha Stevens’ lesbian praise music ministry is recommended by Mark
Allen Powell, Professor of New Testament, Trinity Lutheran Seminary and the author of An Encyclopedia
of Contemporary Christian Music. He states:
“The Mother of Contemporary Christian Music continues to capture
hearts for Jesus. Argue interpretations of Scripture and debate the ethics
and origins of homosexuality all you want -- no one with sensitivity to
things of the Spirit can deny God is using Marsha Stevens to bring the
love and mercy of Christ to people whom God apparently has not
**FYI, these controlled-opposition sites like Rapture Ready endorse Smith/CC.
To ignore the teaching of Scripture for a feeling or intuition that God is using a homosexual for His glory is blind
mysticism. And there is no question that the Bible condemns homosexuality
as a sin in no uncertain terms and demands repentance from it of those
those who come to Christ. Romans 1 condemns man on man and woman
on woman sexual relationships as “vile affections,” “against nature,”
unseemly,” and “a reprobate mind” (Romans 1:26-2Cool. According to
Scripture, God made human sex for marriage and for marriage only, and
anything outside of that is fornication and adultery and is subject to
God’s judgment (Hebrews 13:4). From the beginning to the end of the Bible, God-ordained
marriage is defined as a holy contract between one man and one woman. Polygamy was practiced even by some of
the Old Testament saints, but Jesus taught that this was never God’s will and He referred men to God’s law at the
beginning (Matthew 19:4-6). Therefore, since all sexual activity outside of marriage is sin and since legitimate
marriage is only between a man and a woman, there is absolutely no possibility that God would bless homosexual relationships.
Popular CCM singer Ray Boltz announced his homosexuality in 2008. He divorced his wife to live
with a man. Today he “tours the country playing at liberal churches and gay-pride events that receive him and his
gay Christian message” (Jesus Rocks the World: The Definitive History of Contemporary Christian Music, vol. 2,
Other homosexual CCM artists are Anthony Williams, Kirk Talley, Clay Aiken, Jennifer Knapp,
Doug Pinnock of King’s X, plus Amy Ray and Emily Saliers of Indigo Girls.
In June 2013 Sandi Patty performed with the homosexual Turtle Creek
Chorale at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, Texas. In July 2012 the
Chorale attended the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses (GALA) in Denver (“Turtle Creek Chorale’s
2012-2013 Season,” Turtlecreek.org).
The reason for all of this is not difficult to discern. Typically, CCM musicians have been
accepted as Christians upon the flimsiest testimony of faith and have not
been properly taught and discipled. They have fed their spiritual lives with a constant diet of
sensual music and have sought after emotional highs and “signs and wonders” instead of living by faith. They have
played with the world, which is more dangerous than any poisonous snake, instead of living separated lives. They
have sown to the wind and are reaping the whirlwind.
This has really been a giant SLEEPER within Churchianity over the many years - while they were exposing sodomy through and through, ultimately the enemy came from WITHIN!
There seems to be a lot of Calvary Chapels around the country - there's one in my city, and when I was on the road yesterday saw one in Grand Prairie(TX) - both hold their services in theaters.
With that being said - at this particular one, their current pastor had some sex scandal.

Seven thousand congregants of a Florida Mega-church gathered on Easter with hopes that the church can move on from a tough situation and celebrate the life of Jesus Christ.
Family Feud Arises Over Late Chuck Smith’s Megachurch
When Pastor Chuck Smith passed away last year, few expected a family feud. But that appears to be what's going down in Orange County, California.
ABC7.com is reporting a family fight over control of the megachurch that has morphed into an all-out legal battle.
Smith's daughter has filed suit alleging elder abuse and neglect in connection with the pioneering pastor's last days. Smith went on to glory after a hard-fought cancer battle in October 2013.
"It's still a shock. It's almost a year later and still I can't really process it. Why didn't they help my dad?" Janette Manderson, Smith's daughter, told ABC7.com on behalf of her 87-year-old mother, Kay, who suffers from dementia.
The suit names Smith's son-in-law, Brian Broderson, as a defendant. Broderson is married to Cheryl, Smith's youngest daughter. According to the ABC7.com report, the lawsuit alleges Smith's "death was hastened" and he suffered "significant pain and anguish" the night he had trouble breathing and died from a heart attack.
"Nobody had called 911 until my nephew finally stepped in and did it. The nurse wouldn't do it and told him not to call 911," said Manderson.
Smith, who initiated the rise of Calvary Chapel movement of "Jesus People" that was featured in Time magazine in the 1960s, started pastoring Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in 1965 and was known for his less formal and contemporary approach to worship and church services.
Smith's ministry continued to grow until his death. In 2012, after he announced to his congregation he had been diagnosed with lung cancer, Smith established a 21-member leadership council to oversee the Calvary Chapel Association, a fellowship of more than 1,600 congregations in the United States and worldwide.
The lawsuit claims that board members took over Smith's office and computers and gained control of The Word For Today Incorporated property within 24 hours of his death. Word for Today spans books, DVDs and radio broadcasts. Manderson claims the church cut off Kay's $10,000 monthly annuity benefit after Smith passed away.
"The board is holding on to everything of dad's and not giving it to us," said Manderson. "It makes me sad, it makes me feel that they're dishonoring my dad and disrespecting his wishes."
Let's pray that the family can reconcile any differences and move forward in unity.
