Storms cause damage across wide swath of Montana
Aug 2, 2013
- Strong winds, possible tornados damage buildings, crops across wide swath of Montana.  Strong thunderstorms that moved across Montana left a trail of damage to crops and buildings along with downed trees and power outages.

The worst damage may have occurred in Gallatin County, where winds gusting up to 89 mph devastated wheat and barley crops that likely would have been harvested next week.  Most of the crops are seed crops, meaning there could be a shortage of seed to plant next year.

The storm started in southwestern Montana, where wind gusts up to 104 mph were recorded in Polaris, northwest of Dillon, causing major damage to homes and some trees.

Strong winds and possibly a tornado caused severe damage in Twin Bridges, uprooting trees and blowing the roof off at least one building.

A weather service representative was expected to visit Twin Bridges on Friday to determine if a tornado had touched down, said Steve DiGiovanna of Madison County Disaster and Emergency Services. DiGiovanna said he thought he saw a funnel cloud touch down.

Some falling trees damaged historic buildings, including the museum, and the roof was ripped off a veterinary clinic outside of Twin Bridges. An airport hangar was destroyed, a trailer was crushed by falling trees, and a grandstand at the Madison County Fairgrounds was flipped over and destroyed, he said.

Golf-ball sized hail fell across much of Belgrade and the northern part of Bozeman.

5.8 Earthquake Lincoln, Montana
July 6, 2017
-  Location - 33 miles NW of Helena, Depth  13.6 km.

Strongest earthquake in a dozen years rattles Montana
July 6, 2017 at 3:20 am cdt -  A 5.8 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Montana just after midnight Thursday. It was centered about 5 miles southeast of Lincoln at a depth of about 2.6 miles.

.  It was felt from Cut Bank to Billings and Gardiner, and as far away as Seattle, Washington, and Alberta, Canada.  Things were shaken off of shelves. A power outage was reported in Lincoln.  The earthquake appears to be the largest to hit Montana since July 2005.

The first shake occurred at 12:30 a.m. and lasted about 30 seconds, beginning with a slow tremor and then building in intensity.  It was followed by many aftershocks, ranging from 3.8 to 4.9 in magnitude

UPDATE: Lincoln Volunteer Fire & Rescue
We had one heck of a shaker roll thru Lincoln. Centered just outside of town at magnitude 5.8. Please make sure your propane tanks are not compromised or off their blocks. Check your chimneys and furnace exhausts to make sure they are still aligned and not at risk. Be prepared for aftershocks (many occurring)
Always have a 3 day supply of food and water, for you and your pets. Check your livestock and fences too.
Do an examination of your home once its daylight, check your pipes, water heaters, etc.

WBEN - Rare 5.8 mag earthquake shakes Montana early Thurs am.  Felt as far away as Spokane, WA.

My note
A friend in Montana told me 2 days ago that animals were restless in her area.  Animals sense quakes early - I wonder how.

Matthew 24
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom,
and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
